Tactility

A line of for-commission pendant lamps. Contributions included structural & form design, product photography, and promotional content direction and creation. Work under Studio Soft Hairy and Professor Yu Nong Khew as a part of the student research team with Alexandra Simon ‘27. Featured at the 2026 International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City and the 2026 Anima Mundi Visions in Venice during the Venice Biennale.

“Tactility” uses lighting to bring an organic form and rich texture into a space. The lamps are loosely inspired by Ruth Asawa’s famous looped-wire sculptures. They deploy a wholegarment tube knit, designed and manufactured on site with a Shima Seiki 3d knitting machine. This tube acts as an abstracted lamp shade which wraps around and under two layers of asymmetrical inner ribs attached to a top and bottom holding plate. The laser-cut clear acrylic ribs refract light and hold the form.

Beyond product design and fabrication, my contributions included brand and web design, exhibit installation, and social content. The brand is designed to contrast the organic shapes and fabrics in Studio Soft Hairy’s material pallet. The ambient and electronic music used in launch videos and other content reinforces the collection’s organic-driven vision for the future of design.
